Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can shower walls be used with a steam shower?
A: Yes! Our shower kits can be used in steam showers, however, we do recommend that temperatures do not exceed 115° Fahrenheit.

Q: Can your pan bases be used with heated floors or radiant heat system?
A: We do not recommend installing over a heating element. Although this feature is common for use with regular tiled floors, heat transfer is minimal due to the thickness and material of our pan bases, which can significantly impact the heating effect

Q: What is the weight limit for your base pan?
A: The shower bases are rated to 400 lbs per square inch.

Q: Can I use tile to cover the pan base (tile over the base)?
A: Our pan bases are designed as a finished product and do not need to be tiled over. Since the pan is pre-sloped, tiling over the pan base can impact the ability to drain properly. We also can't guarantee that the tile will adhere to the pan base due to the gel coating.

Q: Can I use a shower curtain with your product?
A: Yes! Although glass shower doors are commonly used with low-profile pan bases, shower curtains may also be used. If using a shower curtain, we recommend using longer shower curtains with tabs or installing a shower dam accessory to help minimize or prevent any water splashing out.

Q: Can I install the pan base over a tile floor?
A: Since we do not know the condition of the existing tile setting, materials used, or the strength of the current tile or grout (old tile may come loose). We recommend installing our pan bases on a solid subfloor of concrete or plywood that is level and properly prepped.

Q: What is the maximum threshold (sill) requirement for a shower door installation?
A: Our pan bases can support shower door frames with a requirement of up to 3". There will be a small gap between the base and the door of about 1mm, which can be filled with waterproof silicone sealant.

Q: Can I drill into the wall panels or pan base?
A: Our composite stone shower walls are engineered to accommodate various mounting and installation options that may require drilling such as shower doors or accessories. We do not recommend drilling less than 1/4" from any edge to avoid damage. We also recommend using self-tapping screws or pre-drilling using a standard masonry drill bit.

Q: Can I trim wall panels?
A: Our composite stone shower walls are engineered for trimming and cutting to adjust for various shower designs and spaces, including windows or niches. You can use a diamond-blade tile saw to trim. We recommend using painter's tape over the area that will be trimmed or cut to help avoid chipping. We have helpful videos demonstrating proper trimming steps on our website at Castico-Tx.com under our support page.

Q: Can I trim the base pan?
A: Our pan bases are available in various sizes and can be trimmed up to 1.5" on each side to help adjust the fit. We do recommend cutting non-exposed edges (inward-facing). We have helpful videos demonstrating proper trimming steps on our website at Castico-Tx.com under our support page.

Q: Can I cut more than 1.5"?
A: Although our wall panels can be cut and trimmed to fit most shower wall designs, accommodating for windows and other shower accessory installation, our pan bases do have a maximum of 1.5" of trimmable area along the edge. Anything over 1.5" is not recommended for pan bases as this will cut into the slope of the pan base and can impact water drainage performance.

Q: What is the drainage flow rate (rate the water will drain)?
A: Our pan bases are pre-sloped to drain at a standard 2.5 gallons per minute (GPM) rate. We recommend using a low-flow shower head if water is not draining sufficiently.

Q: Can I get replacements for missing or broken items for a purchase made through a reseller, third (3rd) party, or unauthorized retailer?
A: Items sold through 3rd party vendors or unauthorized retailers are usually sold as-is. Any missing items will need to be purchased directly through us or they can contact their place of purchase for available options for missing items. Most accessory items can be purchased online through our website at Castico-tx.com.

Q: Do you provide installation?
A: CASTICO does not provide direct installation services for our products. We have a list of experienced contractors who have worked with our products. You can search your zipcode for installers in your area on our website: https://castico-tx.com/castico-remodeler-referral/. Our products are DIY friendly, and we have some great installation videos if you want to do a self-installation.

Q: Are you bases slip-resistant/What is the slip-resistant rating?
A: Safety is a top priority for us, and we're proud to offer a product designed with both function and peace of mind in mind. Our pan bases have been tested for slip resistance and have a Wet DCOF (Dynamic Coefficient of Friction) rating of 0.55, which meets or exceeds industry standards for wet environments. To give you a sense of what that means, it's similar to the grip of rubber on wet cement—very secure and unlikely to slip under normal use.
